FONSI issued for NJ TRANSIT Long Slip Fill and Rail Enhancement Project

Posted on Nov 10, 2016

The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) has issued a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for NJ TRANSIT’s Long Slip and Rail Enhancement Project. The FONSI, issued on October 20, 2016, followed FTA’s review of the June 2016 Supplemental Environmental Assessment (Supplemental EA) for the project, which was prepared in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) of the U.S. DOT Act. A FONSI is issued when a determination is made that a project or action will have no significant effect on the environment.

The Long Slip Fill and Rail Enhancement project will allow NJ TRANSIT to operate train service longer and recover more quickly from storm events. The project includes filling of the Long Slip Canal, a former freight barge channel located within NJ TRANSIT’s Hoboken Yard in Jersey City, NJ, above the best available flood elevation to eliminate it as a conduit for flood water.
